Various Artists - Wango EP-110

(Wango EP-110) 1970

Side One

The fourth Wango 7" Gospel EP includes three Stanley Brothers tracks:- In The Pines which later appeared on the On The Air album; and Don't Let Your Sweet Love Die / Little Maggie which resurfaced again on the V/A - Radio Series Vol. 1 CD.

All three tracks are from the Radio Recordings the Stanley Brothers made for Ray Davis one week in Dec. 1963. In The Pines has vocals by Ralph and George Shuffler. Don't Let Your Sweet Love Die is done as a short instrumental with George's guitar to the fore; and Little Maggie is a little unusual as it some features lead guitar breaks. Carter is largely absent as he was unfortunately was suffering from laryngitis at the time, but can be heard doing the introduction to Little Maggie.

Side Two features material by Don Reno & Bill Harrell.

Gary Reid tells us that the 7" EP was likely released in 1970.

For detailed information on the Stanley Brothers songs/sessions check Gary B. Reid's The Music Of The Stanley Brothers book, pages 173-174, and 204-209.
