The Stanley Brothers - Starday Sessions

(County CCS-106/7) 1984

This double LP set is a collection of material the Stanley's recorded for Starday, i.e:- all of the cuts from Sacred Songs From The Hills; all of the tracks from Mountain Song Favorites - except for Daybreak In Dixie aka Ralph's Banjo Special (which had been licensed from Mercury); five of the 'Stanley' cuts on The Mountain Music Sound Of The Stanley Brothers (all except Come All Ye Tenderhearted which had been licensed from Wayne Raney/Rimrock); and Christmas Is Near which was later re-recorded in 1960.^[1]

The Cover art is mildly interesting, as it features a painting of a King promotional photograph, that was also used on Ralph's The Bluegrass Sound Of... LP.

Nowadays, all of the Starday recordings can be found on the 4xCD The Early Starday/King Years, 1958-1961 box set.
