Please rate this album:

This is a various artists 2xLP set, with both albums being housed in a single non-gatefold jacket. It was released by the New York based Mad-Bag Productions label who seem to have specialised in budget releases. The material all seems to be from mid-60s recordings made by Alex Campbell & Ola Belle Read including their own band The New River Boys & Dobro player Deacon Brumfield. The Stanley Brothers tracks are taken from the Bluegrass Gospel Favorites album which was released after Carter's death, and the Don Reno & Benny Martin cuts are similarly from their 'Bluegrass Gospel Favorites' (Cabin Creek 204) 1967.

I'm not sure how the two tracks from Jack Cooke's 45 I've Always Been A Rambler / Virginia Mountain Banjo (Gambler 1641) link with Alex Campbell, but presumably they do...

The material on the album has been "Electronically altered to simulate stereo", but it remains the only reissue to feature Virginia Mountain Banjo. (Both tracks are however on youtube).
