Curly Dan & Wilma Ann - A Place On The Mountain

The second LP by Curly Dan & Wilma Ann is a decent enough Gospel album which includes Bill Napier on lead guitar. His work is mainly confined to back-up, but he can be heard playing short breaks on Going Up, Live In Peace, Six Day Sinner and I'm Using My Bible For A Roadmap.

Ten of the thirteen songs are originals, mostly written by Curly Dan & Wilma Ann. Of these, Abe Molee is quite an unusual number, dealing with a racial murder of a blind black man who used to read the bible to his white friend.

Two of the songs had previously been recorded by Red Ellis and the Huron Valley Boys for Starday (A Place On The Mountain and The Sweetest Dream).

The last couple of tracks on the album consist of a version of Two Coats, which is similar to Ralph's version from Cry From The Cross, and a renditon of Don Reno's I'm Using My Bible For A Roadmap

The banjo, fiddle & mandolin on the album are provided respectively by:- former Tennessean Ed Dobson who was living in Lincoln Park, Michigan; V.E. Edney who'd recorded with Leon Jackson & Johnny Bryant including their Love Please Come Home; and J.R. Duty - the 17 year old son of Keister Duty from Grundy, Virginia who wrote He Will Save Your Soul.
