Please rate this album:

For Charlie's second CD for Rebel, he reverted to recording with his stage band at the time, augmented by Rickie Simpkins on fiddle and Jimmy Stewart on dobro.

Song selection is impeccable, well suited to Charlie's expressive, soulful vocals and deft lyrical twists. Bristlecone Pine in particular features has haunting lyric & melody, whilst tracks like Keith Whitley / Fred Koller's I Want My Rib Back have a tongue-in-cheek humourous streak.

Another highlight, Made In The Shade (If The Tree Don't Fall), was co-written by Charlie Sizemore and Jimmy Martin. This is another excellent song, with clever lyrics. Jimmy had previously cut it on his 'Got It Made In The Shade (If A Tree Don't Fall)' CD (SMR CD-006) c1992, and his version was also later featured on the 'Songs Of A Free Born Man' (CMH 8440) 2xCD 2003.

Also featured are versions of the Stanley Brothers Let Me Love You One More Time which adds a new verse by Charlie Sizemore (approved by Ralph), rather than duplicating the original only verse:

Now I'm not asking for a life time
I know that can never be
But losing you won't be so hard dear
If you'll want again for me

Another song, Ernest Tubb's Are You Waiting Just For Me? had also been recorded by The Stanley Brothers on one of their c1952 Rich-R-Tone 78s (RRT-1055).

The CD got a glowing 'Highlight' review in the Nov. 1996 edition of 'Bluegrass Unlimited' which concluded:- "The album quality is superb. The recording is clean, the picking is excellent, and the harmony vocals are tight. Charlie's voice (that voice) is right out front throughout. If you like your bluegrass mixed with some heartfelt country flavor, this one's for you".
