This Various Artists album features live recordings by artists that performed at the 'Friends Of Old Time Music' shows in New York, between 1961 and 1963. The 'Friends Of Old Time Music' were a non-profit organisation that endeavoured to bring traditional folk artists to the 'Big Apple' to show New Yorkers the 'real deal'.

The Stanleys are represented by three cuts, which are taken from the 1961 Chicago Folk Festival, which has subsequently been reissued on the 2xCD set Folk Festival. Two of the tracks (Little Birdie and Rabbit In A Log) have also appeared on the Classic Bluegrass From Smithsonian Folkways CD.

The original release came with an insert giving background information to the songs/artists, and miniature reproductions of the 'Friends Of Old Time' concert posters.

The album was reissued on custom CD-R in 2007, and is still available from Smithsonian Folkways, along with a pdf of the LP booklet/artwork.

There is also a version of this LP on the Disc label (Disc D-113), but I'm not sure when or where this was produced.

For detailed information on the songs/sessions check Gary B. Reid's The Music Of The Stanley Brothers book pages 120-122 and 189-90.
