The Stanley Brothers - Folk Song Festival EP

(King KSS-7-791) c Mar 1962

Folk Song Festival EP

This is a 33⅓ rpm jukebox 7" that presumably came out around the time of the Award Winners At The Folk Song Festival LP, and features six tracks from the album.

The 'Little LP' format, as it was known, was developed by the Seeburg jukebox company, who designed and built a stereo jukebox to play these 'Little LP's which were aimed at the adult rather than teenybopper audience. The jukebox displayed a miniature of the album's artwork and by Jan. 1963 a catalogue of 233 different titles were available for jukebox owners to purchase for $1.50 a piece.

At least twelve King EPs were issued in this format, but I think this is the only one to feature The Stanley's.

Seeburg eventually sold the 'Little LP' business in 1967, and by 1969 the business had fizzled out.

For more info on the 'Little LP's see:- http://www.bsnpubs.com/stereoproject/llps.html

Juke Box artwork

All six sides of the EP can be found spread over the The Early Starday/King Years, 1958-1961 and The King Years, 1961-1965 4xCD box sets. On the 7" label, Keep Them Cold, Icy Fingers Off Of Me is abbreviated to Cold Icy Fingers & Just Dreamin' is listed as Just Dreaming.

For a detailed breakdown and background to the Stanley's sessions, check Gary B. Reid's The Music Of The Stanley Brothers book, pages 118-119, 128-129, 151-152 and 158-160.
