The Stanley Brothers - A Few More Seasons / Carolina Mountain Home

(Starday 565) Dec 1961

A Few More Seasons

This 7" features Carolina Mountain Home which had previously been released on a 7" EP (SEP-107) and the Stanley's Mountain Song Favorites LP; and A Few More Seasons which likewise had previously been released on 7" EP (SEP-123) and the Sacred Songs From The Hills album.

'Billboard' listed the disc in their 4th Dec. 1961 edition, giving both sides three stars, but with no review.

A Few More Seasons although credited to Ralph, sounds more like one of Carter's compositions and also features him on lead vocals. Lyrically it deals with the death of one's parents and reflecting on the spring flowers in the church yard where we'll all end up pushing up the daisies... (when) a few more seasons come.

Carolina Mountain Home was originally recorded by the Wright Brothers from Beech Mountain, North Carolina and released on the 'Excellent' label, before getting reissued by Starday in 1957. Co-composer Len Wright, also wrote I Just Came From Your Wedding which the Stanley's also later recorded and released on the King 5688 single.[1] The Wright Brothers version of Carolina Mountain Home (released as Harlin and Stanley & The Wright Brothers) can also be heard on youtube.

Both sides can now be found on the excellent Early Starday/King Years, 1958-1961 4xCD set.

For a detailed breakdown and background to the Stanley's session, check Gary B. Reid's The Music Of The Stanley Brothers book, pages 96-98, 105-106, 141 and 144.
