Please rate this album:

This is one of those 'dodgy' European compilations, that takes advantage of the expiration in copyright in recordings after 50 years.[1] Often such product, prominently displays the M.C.P.S. (Mechanical Copyright Protection Society) logo, and would still incur royaly payments to the song publishers, but not necessarily to the original record label or artists.

In this case, the artwork says "Made in Portugal" but the M.C.P.S logo would indicate a UK origin.

The featured material is taken from the Columbia and Rich-R-Tone sessions, which can be found in more complete form and better quality on The Complete Columbia Stanley Brothers and Earliest Recordings: The Complete Rich-R-Tone 78s CDs. Disc Three features WCYB radio recordings, which can be found on the Rebel The Stanley Brothers On WCYB Bristol and V/A - Live Again! WCYB Bristol Farm & Fun Time sets. Both Rebel albums have been compiled as one CD, and feature inter-song dialogue, which has been cut from this 'Golden Stars' set.

The 3xCD set comes in a card slip-on case and doesn't have any liner notes or song recording information.

For detailed information on the songs/sessions check Gary B. Reid's The Music Of The Stanley Brothers book. For page references, see the Original Release entries.
