The Stanley Brothers - The Stanley Brothers And The Clinch Mountain Boys

(Mercury FDX9059-60) 1974

This is a Japanese double LP compilation from 1974 of Mercury era material, which only duplicates a couple of tracks from the earlier 1971 The Stanley Brothers & The Clinch Mountain Boys 2xLP set. A follow-up companion release, Vol. 2, includes practically all the remaining Mercury cuts.

The gatefold cover is probably the strangest and most unsuited 'Stanley Brothers' cover I've ever seen... a psychedelic nightmare, with Carter and Ralph's eyes & teeth looking pretty sinister... probably best not to stare at it too long!

The inner gatefold includes lyrics to the songs in English and some Japanese text.

Nowadays probably the best way to get all the Mercury material is on the 2xCD The Complete Mercury Recordings set.
